Firearm Safety Tips
Essential safety rules for handling and storing firearms.
Firearm Safety Tip
Always Keep the Muzzle Pointed in a Safe Direction
This is a fundamental rule of firearm safety. Always be aware of where the muzzle of your firearm is pointing and ensure it’s directed towards a safe area. This practice helps prevent accidental discharge from causing harm or damage. Remember, a safe direction means that even if the gun were to unintentionally fire, it would not result in injury or damage. This rule is crucial whether you’re on the range, cleaning your firearm, or storing it.
Treat all guns as if they are loaded
Never assume you know its condition, always check and confirm, and continue to handle it as if it were loaded at all times.
Never point the muzzle at anything you are not willing to destroy
It’s especially important when loading or unloading a firearm.
Keep your finger off the trigger
Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on target and you have made the decision to shoot.
Be sure of your target and what is behind it
Don’t shoot unless you know exactly what your shot will hit.
Ensure every member of the household has been provided with basic firearm safety training
Regardless of whether they wish to learn to shoot, ensure every member of the household has been provided with basic firearm safety training.
Store your firearm and all ammunition in a secured, responsible manner.
